November 17th, 2001 - MJ Promo stunt
Michael made a special appearance at MTV TRL in New York City on today where MTV host Carson Daly asked Michael some questions live:

MTV: "As you see, total and utter chaos in the streets of New York. You know, it's been a tough, tough... really for New York City in the last 7 or 8 weeks for the people in NYC. Today, just getting an incredible thrill, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, being so kind and coming to Times Square and say hi. And we are just absolutely honored and thrilled, and my self personally, to be here with you. Thank you very much."
Michael: "Thank you".

MTV: "I have to ask you. How does it feel to have the number one album in every country worldwide, again?"
Michael: "It's a great honor. I'm very happy about it. We worked very hard on it and I'm blessed that the fans accepted it the way they did and I'm very honored, I really am. I don't take anything for granted. Every time there's a number one album or song, it's as if it is the first one. So, I'm very happy about that.

MTV: "Well, congratulations. The record is amazing. So many people that I have interviewed on "TRL," just about everybody ... let me change that ... everybody, lists you as an influence. Are there any artists that influence you?"
Michael: "Lots of artists, mostly entertainers. I would say Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown, Jackie Wilson. There's so many great singers from Aretha Franklin to Streisand, and I love Beatles music. I just love great, great music."

The show is filmed live from the Virgin Megastore where Michael also had his first ever signing session to sign his new Invincible album. Michael calmly signed many copies of his new album. Asking his fans: "Hey how are you?" when they aproached the signing table. The whole event even brought traffic to a standstill in the popular area of New York. It was the most attended press event they had ever seen in NY City. For those who didn't get in, Michael treated them to a dance as he stepped out of the store into Times Square to wave at fans in the street and spin around to his latest single 'You Rock My World'.

I love my brothers and it was just a great celebration; it was so much fun."
Michael continues about N'Sync: "They are the giants of the industry today, on an international level. And having them coming after me, I was completely honored and blessed and happy."
And he spoke about his fans: "Seeing the fans react was a wonderful experience," added Michael. "I enjoyed all the hysteria. It always makes a performer feel good when they're paid back with an 'I love you' and dancing and shouting. It's a happy thing."

October 26, 2901 - Michael Jackson chat session
Michael conducts a live chat with his fans for over an hour through the GetMusic.com and RollingStone.com websites. Music writer and critic Anthony DeCurtis hosted this special chat posing fans' questions as well as his own. Michael was very relaxed, open, thoughtful, and funny during the interview. Taking time to answer questions at length to explain or emphasize points.
Fan: "Which song on Invincible do you relate the most?" Michael: "Unbreakable, because I've been through so many things.... but nothing or no one can stop me until I am ready to stop."

Fan: "What inspired Speechless?" Michael: "I spend a lot of time in the forest. I like to go into the forest. I like to climb trees, my favored thing is to climb trees, go all the way to the top and look down on the branches. Whenever I do that, it inspires me to write music. There were these two sweet little kids, a girl and a boy, they are so innocent, they are the quintessential form of innocence. Just being in their presence, I felt completely speechless, I felt I was in the presence of God, whenever I saw them.... and that inspired me to write Speechless."

Michael: "What More Can I Give?" will be released "very, very soon. We're putting the finishing touches on it now. We will be releasing surprise singles, but that's in the future."

Michael: "Being off stage is difficult for me. Being on stage or writing music or writing poetry, or watching cartoons is what brings me to life."

Michael talking about the 'Smooth Criminal' cover by Alien Ant Farm: "I fell in love with it. They wanted my permission. I heard it and gave it a triple A."

Michael about Chris Tucker. "He makes me laugh so hard. I like people that make you laugh without vulgarity."

Michael about upcoming video's: "Things that have never been seen before. We'll be going to places that we never gone or danced before". Adding: "all the hip-hop things that are happening now is beginning to look like aerobics. It's getting kinda annoying."

Michael about the "Nightmare of Edgar Allan Poe" project: "it's about the great, prolific American writer, Edgar Allan Poe. He was very diabolical, very dark, but he was a genius. But his personal life was very interesting and that's what it's about. What he had to go through to create such genius work."

Michael's Halloween plan: "I was going to go and knock on some doors and get candy....nobody knows it's me."

October 21st, 2001 - Charity concert
The "United We Stand/What More Can I Give?" benefit concert raised around million dollars from ticket sales alone. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Relief Fund, the Pentagon Relief Fund, and the Salvation Army Relief Fund to benefit the victims of September 11 terrorist attacks. The 'United We Stand' concert will raise additional money for charity when it is broadcast in a two-hour television special on November 1st on ABC (USA)
Michael was the last solo artist to perform, entering the stage after being introduced by comedian Chris Tucker. Singing "Man in the Mirror," Michael climbed aboard a crane and wrapped an American flag around his shoulders while being lifted over the crowd. At one point, he asked the audience to join hands. Michael: "Don't do it because I'm asking you but because it's the right thing to do. Tonight we all stand united and ask, what more can I give? To the families of the victims of September 11 that are here with us tonight, you are not alone. You are in our hearts, you are in our thoughts, and you are in our prayers." The concert ended with Michael and all the other performing artists singing Michael's 'What More Can I Give?'
